Music for Young Children
Music has always been an integral part of my life. After a childhood packed with piano lessons, dance classes, choir and band concerts, I moved to Toronto to study the disciplines of drama, voice and dance at the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts. After several years of auditions, shows and commercials in the big city, I followed the call back to the ocean and moved to Vancouver, BC. This is where I discovered my passion for teaching kids music when I was hired as both the voice and dance teacher at Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a children’s musical theatre school, in West Van. One of my fondest memories was seeing my students perform “Peter Pan” on stage at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre (while I prompted from the wings)!
When I found myself yearning for a slower pace than city life allowed, I moved back to my childhood home on Quadra Island in 2015. Since my return, I’ve been teaching privately in my home studio, as well as public classes in studios around town. I also love to help out our local theatre group, Theatre Quadra, by providing musical coaching for both child and adult cast members in our family musicals (Cinderella 2017, South Pacific 2018, Robin Hood 2019).
I welcomed my son, Lion James, into this world May 6th, 2020. Ever since, I’ve been looking for the right music class that will make learning music as fun for him as it was for me. Being an MYC kid myself, I know this is the program for him. However, with the closest MYC classes being in Courtenay, I want to be able to offer this program a little closer to home.
I am so excited to offer MYC on Quadra Island and in Campbell River!
